Custom Aluminum Deck Railing — Quadra Island Home
A Quadra Island homeowner was replacing their aging wooden deck and wanted aluminum railings that would last in the coastal climate without constant maintenance. The deck overlooks Heriot Bay with stunning ocean views, so the railing design needed to maximize visibility.
We designed a clean, modern railing system using 6061-T6 aluminum with horizontal cable infill. The posts are 2x2 inch square tube with welded base plates for through-bolting to the deck framing. All welds were ground smooth for a clean finished appearance.
The cable system uses 1/8" stainless steel cable with turnbuckle tensioners at each run. The aluminum was left in its natural mill finish, which develops a protective oxide layer in the salt air — zero maintenance required.
The Challenge
The homeowner wanted railings that could withstand coastal salt air indefinitely while preserving panoramic ocean views from the deck.
Our Solution
Fabricated a horizontal cable railing system with 6061-T6 aluminum posts and 1/8" stainless steel cables. Natural mill finish for zero-maintenance corrosion resistance.
The Result
The railing system has been maintenance-free since installation. The horizontal cables provide virtually unobstructed views of Heriot Bay, and the aluminum shows no signs of corrosion.
